Why? Why do I toil, all alone yet endlessly amused, in the WordPress blogging fields?
Because it beats toiling in a real field, shoving scary genetically modified seeds into parched dirt full of contaminants that will mutate our collective DNA and ultimately spell the demise of the human race. Plus, I hate to sweat.
Why choose this medium to express yourself?
Because one can only express oneself so much with art comprised of stick figures; because my attempts at interpretive dance are likely to be interpreted as an indication of someone needing emergency medical attention; because it’s hard to pursue music when most of the time you prefer silence.
Why does writing this blog matter at all?
Because it allows me to judge people and things I find absurd under the guise of humor, purge sarcastic thoughts from my head, and it is far more cathartic and far less expensive than therapy. Oh, and it gets me off the hook when my mother says, “Lisa, you really should be writing something.” On the other hand, maybe it doesn’t matter at all – you decide.
Just peeked at your blog after seeing your comment on a Freshly Pressed blog…I read a few posts and liked them all. =)
Thank you, that makes my day! I hope you’ll subscribe.
Lisa
Enjoying your blog. You make small town life sound worth trying…especially for someone like me living in a large city with a lot of commuting time to content with on a daily basis.
Signed up and look forward to reading more of your observations.
Thank you so much for subscribing – that’s truly such a compliment! Small town life certainly has trade-offs, but the lack of traffic alone probably added 5 years to my life!
Enjoying you!!!! Going to subscribe….. but not going to rush over to give you any work! Hopefully my subscription is enough motivation to come up with some more awesome creativity!!!
xx
Subscribing is the highest form of flattery – thank you! You know, some of my family members may actually view my “awesome creativity” as an undiagnosed psychiatric condition, but I’m fairly certain I’m not a danger to myself or anyone else. Welcome!
So refreshing! Loved the Snow Sisters… maybe we can be as creative and make the white stuff disappear?
That’s a fabulous idea! Let’s try putting on grass skirts and flip flops, tapping our heels together, and chanting gibberish – ready, set….
Just stumbled onto your blog, the Brady Bunch send-up is hilarious, and unfortunately, too close to modern reality. Will definitely be back!
Welcome to the blog, so you glad you stumbled by! True, my modern day version of the Brady Bunch could be a reality show, couldn’t it?
I love your sense of humor. I’m new to social media and blogging and totally agree about Twitter. Keep up the punny work!
Thank you! I knew I couldn’t be the only one feeling like twitter is pretty absurd.
Hello Quarky and Lisa -
I agree. I love her sense of humor and wit, combined with reality of life situations. Nice.
Thanks, Charlie! There’s nothing funnier than reality : )
Saw you on Freshly Pressed and got to reading more of your stuff. Great job. I am an official subscriber!
Thanks Kim! So glad you subscribed – welcome to my blog family. I promise not to cross you out (I reserve that for my real life relatives)!
Just a quick note:I ENJOYED YOUR “IGNORE” TOPIC. ^5 Keep up the great work.
Thank you! I hope you’ll come back again to visit.
I can’t ignore this post! excellent writing. Betsy Wills http://www.artstormer.com
Thanks, Betsy! It’s a thrill to be getting so much attention for how I used to ignore people!
I happily landed here via Brown Road Chronicles. I’m looking forward to reading more.
Welcome! Any friend of Brown Road Chronicles is a friend of the Big Sheep Blog : )
Lisa, something has gone haywire…please check your blog admin stuff. Your blog is suddenly showing up on my dashboard as a blog I am a “member of”.??
That’s weird. I’m not sure exactly what to check but I’ll take a look.
Hey Rayme, as far as I can tell, if someone has a blog that they don’t want to be accessible to the public, then only people they approve as members can view it. My blog has always been public and I checked my settings and it’s still public, so I have no idea why that would show up.
It just disappeared a few moments ago, but it was listed under “my blogs”, along with mine. I couldn’t actually see your dashboard, but the menu made it look like I could. Must have been a glitch, but it isn’t very comforting, is it? I will let you know if it happens again, but hopefully it won’t!
It’s a little spooky. Maybe I/we have a blog ghost or something??
I’m notifying my favorite bloggers one by one, since I couldn’t figure out how to get links to work (I’m technically challenged) – You’ve been nominated by me for the Versatile Blogger Award. If you want to take advantage of this dubious honor… Write a post that mentions notquiteold as your nominator, nominate 15 other posts (a lot I know) and tell your readers seven things about yourself that they may not know. Congrats, and I love your blog.
Nancy, thank you so much! I love your blog too. I’ve actually received this award before, but it’s lovely to know that you find my blog award-worthy.
Hi Lisa, Well it’s my first time here. You were on a blog role of someone I stopped by this morning and I wish I could remember who now….but I’m glad to read your bio, of sorts, above, because you admitted to the sarcasm. I started my comment on your education post today saying how I loved the drip, drip, drip of sarcasm but didn’t want to be too, you know, forward, because I just met you. So now I can say it – love the drip, drip, drip of sarcasm in your writing.
Hi Barb, welcome! What can I say? When I write, sarcasm comes out and I’m okay with that! Thanks for your comments : )
I meant blog roll. See? I’m an English teacher and I got that wrong. Notice, however, that I couldn’t resist proofing my work.
I didn’t even notice, but I’m glad you’re setting a good example and proofing your work.
I’ve had a similar experience to yours. I’m a freelance journo – mostly business – and started my blog to talk about writing-related things to show how knowledgeable I was. Somewhere along the way it’s all gone horribly wrong: I’m now under the impression that I’m funny, and no subject is too obscure for me to subject to my wit. What happened?!
Ah, so nice to meet a kindred spirit. Truly, we’re just doing the world a service, shining a light on absurdity wherever we find it. Write on, my friend!
Hi
Im pretty new to all this blogging stuff and not sure how to progress im looking for an angle and direction to take this into, im trying to make my blog just be random and reflect what im thinking or doing at any particular time, can you give any tips on how to structure it a lot more, by the way yours is great!!
Welcome to the blogging neighborhood! I’d suggest you write often and your blog will evolve over time – best of luck!
Thanks im finding it quite addictive if im honest! Could you do me a favour and comment on my blog just so i dont look like a total tool with no interest, also how do people generate any income through blogs?
First, if you’re in this for money, you’re wasting your time! WordPress.com does not allow you to post ads on your blog. Second, it takes a long time to develop a following and get people engaged enough to leave comments. Just be persistent and use tags on each posts so people will find you when they search for a certain topic.
Just went through your blog…funny as hell!
Thanks for the much needed giggle.
Thank you! So glad you stopped by : )
I may only be 13 but I love your blog so much! I love reading it and get so excited when you post something! Thank you so much for making me laugh!
Hi Alyssa! That’s a wonderful compliment – thank you so much!! Please, keep reading : )
Lisa,
I’ve “hit” you for a blogging “Tag you must answer all my questions” game (http://fiftyfourandahalf.com/2013/02/17/beats-the-alternative/). You may answer or not, play or not. I won’t judge you.
Elyse
Um, thanks, maybe??
It’s a mixed blessing. But a great excuse for avoiding housework.
I’m all for good excuses ;-D
